Team Carolina Goes 7-1 at Duke Team Challenge

(7/24/05) Durham, NC- Team Carolina cruised to a 7-0 record before falling to national power Delbarton School (NJ) 5-4 in the championship game. Team Carolina trailed 3-0 early in the game, and 3-1 at the half, before mounting a second half comeback. The comeback was highlighted by an acrobatic diving goal by Tommy D'Alessandro (Charlotte Country Day-2006) and a goal by Joe Howard (Durham Jordan-2007) that brought Team Carolina to within one late in the game. After securing the final face-off with less than thirty seconds to play, Team Carolina was unable to get off a game tying shot.

Team Carolina came together quickly to win sevev out of seven games and secure the number one tournament seed. The select team of North Carolina's best high school players combined stifling defense, stingy goaltending, athletic midfield play, and high scoring attack to register wins over Georgetown Prep, St. Anne's Belfield, and Delbarton.

For their efforts, atackmen Tommy D'Alessandro and Joe Howard were named to the All-Tournament first team along with midfielder Bob Kercher (Durham Riverside-2007) and defenseman Mike McGeary (Durham Jordan-2006). In addition, D'Alessandro was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player, registering twelve goals and fifteen assists.

Team Carolina will next travel to Warrior Champ Camp in Baltimore, MD on Thursday, July, 28th where it will begin pool play against Mt. St. Joseph's (MD), Team Georgia, and Patriots Lacrosse Club (NJ).
