Lacrosse fundamentals for boys and girls ages 5-9 years old, including: Catching, passing, ball handling and shooting. We will also review terminology, team positions, rules of the game, scoring and of course, safety.Instruction will be provided by volunteers: parents who have played either team or club lacrosse, coaches and high school and middle school players. We will divide players into small groups. Each group will rotate through the four skills for approx. 25 minutes each week.

Equipment Needed: Each player will need a regulation lacrosse stick and mouthpiece. Since we will be learning fundamentals only, no other protective gear will be required. Please wear tennis shoes. Cleated shoes are not recommended.
We will have a few lacrosse sticks available for use during lessons. You can purchase a lacrosse stick at The Charlotte Lacrosse Company or a sporting goods store. Sticks are available for from $20 and up. Mouthpieces are available at both places as well.

Cool Kids Lacrosse Camp
Description: Cool Kids Lacrosse Camps are under the direction of Jamie Schmidt. Coach Schmidt is a 4th grade teacher and director of both the LumberJack lacrosse Academy and the Polar Bear Cub division. Cool Kids camps are a perfect place for beginners and/or more advanced lax players to develop their lacrosse skills. Every day, campers strengthen basic skills while exploring advanced skills that will take their game to the next level. When the temperature rises in the afternoon, campers head to the pool for more mini lacrosse stick action and fun in the sun! Players should provide their own stick and gloves. Description: Campers will receive innovative lacrosse instruction from the areas finest coaches in small groups to accommodate individual needs and most importantly provide more reps for faster growth. Matt, who is returning for his third year as Director, brings tremendous work ethic and experience from the lacrosse world. On the field, Matt continues to solidify his place in lacrosse history by recently winning his third Professional MLL Championship and earning Championship MVP honors in 2007. Off the field, his experiences as a 2x National Champion at Princeton, 3x World Champion in the MLL, World Champion on Team USA, and on the sideline as a coach at Princeton make him one of the best camp directors around.

June 16 - 20, 2008, 9am - Noon - "Soft-Crosse" will offer this NOVICE level camp for BOYS and GIRLS interested in lacrosse, but have not played the sport. Childern will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of how the stick works, how to cradle, catch, throw, scoop, and shoot. We will introduce the game of lacrosse without the physical aspect. There will be no checking or contact during this camp. Boys and girls will need to bring a lacrosse stick, but no protective equipment. Get ready for a great introduction to the game of lacrosse.June 9 - 13, 2008, 9am - noon - "Young Guns" Lacrosse Camp - This is a youth lacrosse program for Boys with some lacrosse experience. Recommended for rising grades 3-6. Coach Sipperly's goal is to improve upon each child's stick skills: cradle, throw, catch, scoop and shot. We will teach dodging, defending, positional play, as well as, fundamental tactics of the full field game. Boys will need to have their own lacrosse equipment; stick, helmet, arm pads, shoulder pads, gloves, mouthpiece and a protective cup.
June 9 - 13, 2008, 1pm - 4pm - Blue and White Lacrosse Camp - This camp is for Boys who take lacrosse seriously and want to improve their game and progress to the next level. Coach Sipperly will continue to teach the fundamental skills of the game while striving to increase the lacrosse 'game sense' for each boy. Attacking concepts, offensive formations, riding and clearing, and defending (both individually and as a team) will be taught. This camp will focus on the competitive game of lacrosse; the level of competition and the game situational play will increase. The required equipment includes stick, helmet, arm pads, shoulder pads, gloves, mouthpiece, and a protective cup.
